On July 12, the U.S. Ski Team’s alpine men spent a day in the life of a firefighter. Ted Ligety, Marco Sullivan and company strapped
on hard hats and turnout gear to work out with the Salt Lake City Fire Department. The racers went through the firefighters’ exercise routine, navigated dark corridors in oxygen masks and extinguished an enflamed rail car. “The instructors were actually quite
impressed in the stuff that was physical,” said head coach Sasha Rearick. “Where the guys had to go with speed and be physical,
[the instructors] were like, ‘Wow that’s faster than any of our recruits do it.’ [But] in terms of how we work together as a group to
unload and load a fire truck, we have a lot of work to do.”

The Federer Freak
To see her face back then, you would have
thought Lindsey Vonn was standing in the
start gate of the Olympic downhill course as she
watched her hero, Roger Federer, win the 2009
French Open this summer. Oblivious to the NBC
cameras capturing her expression, Vonn watched
with unblinking stoic concentration until she got
the opportunity (after hanging out in the VIP box
with John McEnroe and Ted Robinson) to finally congratulate Federer and get a photo with
him. By the time Wimbledon rolled around, Vonn
was having dinner with “the Federer crew.” Stay
tuned to see who’s on her sidelines in Vancouver.
