THANKS for the lift (part 1)
Bode Miller’s mom, Jo Kenney, who has been around lots of big events over the
years, nevertheless, made an error and hopped on a bus headed to the Olympic
cross country venue rather than the downhill. After 15 minutes she learned she
was headed the wrong way by overhearing fans discussing the upcoming ladies’
10K free. Hopping up and pushing to the front of the bus, she persuaded the driver to stop the bus on the side of the highway and clambered off.
Crossing the highway the undaunted mom flagged down the first available vehicle. It turned out to be a police car. Kenny explained her predicament, who she
was and how little time she had to get to the finish stadium. The Royal Canadian
Mounted Police officer told her to hop in, turned on the flashing lights and sped
her right to the finish line of the Whistler Creekside downhill course. She arrived
just in time to catch her son’s bronze medal effort.
Now that is what the Waxroom calls hospitality.
Taylor Swift, will you be Will’s?
Will Brandenburg is using his new fame as an Olympic athlete to get the attention of fellow
celebrities. While chatting with MTV during an interview in Whistler before racing began,
Brandenburg was asked what kind of music he likes. Rogue Wave, Kings of Leon ... Brandenburg began to list off some cool bands. Then, Ted Ligety took over the mike and informed
everybody what his young teammate is really into.
“He’s actually a big Taylor Swift fan,” Ligety said. (Gotta love a wing man.)
This all led to Brandenburg looking square into the camera and asking the blond country
singer to be his Valentine. The Waxroom has it all captured on film.
Thanks
for the lift (Part 2)
After a bomb threat sunk Ski Racing associate
editor Eric Williams’ only familiar means of transportation (Vancouver Sea Bus) to catch a ride to an
Oakley sponsored press conference, the goggle and
outwear maker hooked Williams up with $25 cab
fare to get to the event. Thanks a bundle, Oakley!
(Thanks for the delicious s’mores, too!)
