It should come as no surprise that it’s been a busy spring for Lindsey
Vonn, even after she hung up her racing skis. A few highlights: On
March 31, a mob of hundreds of fans showed up for her homecom-
ing celebration in Vail. So many Vonn-atics were there, in fact, that
officials had to cut short the autograph signing session for safety
reasons.
Vail’s Lionshead, where Vonn and her husband Thomas rent a home
through Vonn’s partnership with Vail Resorts, was literally wall-to-
wall with locals and tourists of all ages waving “Lindsey is Epic”
posters and signs. There were people on the roof of The Arrabelle
(where Vonn’s condo is located) and the clamor of children scream-
ing “Lindsey!” never ceased.
After being introduced by former U.S. Ski Team racer and Vail lo-
cal Chad Fleischer, Ski Club Vail director Aldo Radamus, Vail mayor
Dick Cleveland and Vail Resorts’ John Garnsey, Vonn swam through
the sea of fans, many of whom just wanted to touch her as she went
by, and took the stage looking genuinely agog with the turnout.
“There are so many people,” she said when it was her turn with the
microphone. “It’s so great to have you all here cheering for me. It
makes me feel like you guys understand what I’ve accomplished and
it means the world to me.”
Then, after another swim — through nearly a foot of fresh powder
at Vail on April 2 — Vonn flew to New York City to film “Law & Or-
der.”
Yep. Turns out she’s crazy for the crime drama, and so the creator
wrote Vonn into the script of the season finale. She posted on Face-
book that she was so excited she could “hardly stand it” and that
she hoped she would remember her lines. Vonn’s role is that of an
administrative assistant who provides a very important clue in a
terrorist case.
Once on set, Vonn had this photo (left) taken at “Law & Order” su-
perstar Lt. Van Buren’s desk, posting that she was “in Law & Order
heaven.” The episode is scheduled to air on NBC May 24.
And Speaking of powder...
It just pukes in Utah. Ted Ligety finally got to ski some Park City pow in
his hometown in early April. Not bad for spring skiing: Utah got close to
three feet in three days. This video must have stopped some hearts at the
Center of Excellence down the street. That’s why they call him Shred.
