Bib draws on the alpine World Cup
have long been a festive affair, but
the Waxroom has noticed a bit of bar-raising in Europe lately. First there
was Julia Mancuso getting down and
dirty with the emcee at Zauchensee
on Jan. 8. Then, on Jan. 10 in Flachau,
organizers zoomed athletes such as
Marlies Schild (left) via dirt bike to the
stage, where a junior ski racer ziplined
50 feet down from the top of a rock-climbing wall to present the bib. Who
needs a Super Bowl halftime show
when we’ve got bib draws all winter?
