Nordic World Championships Kick Off in Oslo
On Wednesday, Feb. 23, the FIS Nordic
World Ski Championships 2011 officially
began in Oslo, Norway. At the opening
press conference, FIS President Gian
Franco Kasper said that returning to
Oslo felt like “going back to the cradle of
nordic skiing.” It is, until March 6, a full
cradle, with 636 athletes from 50 countries; 1,600 journalists, 2,200 volunteers
and more than 300,000 spectators.
