Are Tarvisio
Lindsey Vonn arcs a turn en route to her fourth consecutive downhill title.
The energy generated at World Championships only
grew as the world’s fastest women charged into the last
month of the World Cup season with speed races in Are,
Sweden; and Tarvisio, Italy.
And the scuffle for crystal globes was back on for the tour’s
top women — with some added pressure from behind as
everyone else fought for their last shot at making the top
25 in the discipline rankings to earn a ticket to World Cup
Finals in Lenzerheide, Switzerland.
Though Lindsey Vonn’s concussion problems seemed to
be in the rearview mirror following a post-world champs
hiatus, her one big speed bump appeared everywhere
she looked in Are as Maria Riesch took two of three wins,
including a one-hundredth-of-a-second heartbreaker
along with the discipline lead in the season’s penultimate
super G.
The luck was a little more evenly spread in Tarvisio as
two women captured their first wins of the season, a U.S.
young gun made her first big splash and Vonn defended
three of her 2010 titles.
The women’s speed season crescendos with races in Are and Tarvisio
as Lindsey Vonn scores a crystal hat trick, and the fight for World Cup
Finals spots heats up. BY ERIC WILLIAMS
