finished second ahead of Zak Watkins in third. Discoe
fought his way into the finals with back-to-back 18-17 wins
in the quarterfinals and semifinals. Discoe turned it up a
notch in the finals, winning with a convincing 21-14 score
to secure his first dual moguls national title.
“It was a great day; I’m pretty stoked,” said Discoe. “I skied
to have fun, and just laid down the run I knew I had.”
The women’s competition also provided excitement. The
final, between Outtrim and McPhie came down to the
wire, with Outtrim just edging McPhie 18-17 for the win. “I
felt unsatisfied that I had not been on the podium yet this
season, so I used that to motivate me,” said Outtrim. “It
was really cool, because I grew up skiing 20 minutes from
here. It felt like skiing on home turf.”
Heather McPhie grabbed her second medal of the week-
end with the silver. Heidi Kloser finished third. Kearney
called it a season after her singles victory and did not start
in the duals contest.
