2011 NCAA Skiing Championships
STOWE, VT — Unrelenting snow hammered
northeastern states in the days leading up to the
University of Vermont-hosted 2011 NCAA Skiing Championships at Stowe Mountain Resort
and Trapp Family Lodge (March 9-12).
Western teams — some driving to Stowe from
as far away as Philadelphia because of cancelled
flights — arrived groggy-eyed and travel-lagged,
only to find the first two days of competition
compressed into one because more inclement
weather loomed.
When the March 9 races kicked off in perfect
conditions (blue skies, temperatures in the high
20s, and firm, dry snow) everyone breathed a collective sigh: maybe the famously capricious New
England weather would cooperate?
Yeah, right.
