In the end, Colorado — the most consistent ski team in the country the past four seasons — stepped out from the shadow of three-time defending champs Denver and
dusted the Pioneers from college skiing’s highest plain to capture the 2011 crown.
It was CU’s 18th national title — the 17th recognized by NCAA — and though the
team is familiar with major trophies, this year’s result was extra special: the win was
dedicated to the late Spencer Nelson, the Buff skier who passed away in August after
a climbing accident near Aspen.
