WOMEN Kikkan Randall
U.S. NORDIC SKIER OF THE YEAR
Randall had a stellar winter. She finished third in the final sprint
World Cup standings with two victories and three podiums. She made
the finals of every skate sprint she entered with the exception of World
Championships in Oslo where, as the heavy favorite, she crashed out
after a tangle in the quarterfinals. While Randall may have lost out
on a medal in Oslo, this was still by far her best and most consistent
season on the World Cup. She wore the leader’s bib for a short period
of time in the Sprint Cup, and regularly scored points in her distance
starts. Randall notched her career-best World Cup distance result in
Lahti in March — an 11th in the 10K pursuit — before heading back
to the domestic circuit in Sun Valley to sweep the women’s races at
Spring Series.
