What racers really bring to the hill BY THE SKI RACING STAFF
Every year, Ski Racing works with the top
manufacturers in the industry to show you
the newest lineup of skis and boots, and this
year is no different — see the equipment
pages in this issue for a complete look at
what’s hot off the production line. For this
season, however, we also decided to work
with some of the top racers in the industry
to also show you what real athletes are
actually bringing to their events, whether it
be the Lauberhorn or the local slalom. We
asked World Cuppers, NCAA competitors
and masters racers a slew of questions
about their skis, boots, poles, iPods, snacks
and lucky tokens, and boy, did they answer.
In the following pages you’ll hear about
everything from Ted Ligety’s Uggs to Steve
Foley’s corkscrew. You’ll also hear from J3
coaches on the gear that juniors really need
— and don’t need.
Does any of it actually provide speed? We’ll
find out this season. Enjoy.
