WHY ELITE SKI RACERS ARE LURED TO FLY FISHING BY ERIC WILLIAMS
Sure, this past summer included plenty of R
& R and racing for the U.S. Ski Team. But Ski
Racing couldn’t help but notice that for several
of the top racers, the time typically dedicated
to dryland training isn’t so dry after all — not
when you’re knee deep in a river, casting for
trout. And it also seems that a few fishing poles
(er, fly rods) are getting packed along with ski
poles when the athletes travel. So we set to
find out just what the appeal of such a low-key
pastime is to such a high intensity set.
Johnny Spillane has Olympic
medals — and trophy trout.
