A Ticking Clock
STARTHOUSE
Perhaps the most important task facing the USSA board today is transitioning from
the leadership of Bill Marolt, who plans to retire by 2014, to someone who can take

Foundation — without an executive in charge. Leading up to the 2014 Sochi Games,
the timing is adverse, but it does serve notice that the hunt for a CEO successor must
be top priority. The new CEO should be in position to shape his team well before the
2014 Marolt departure.

ure. Today, there is no question about Best in the World. Today, for the first time in its
history, the United States can claim it has the best snowsports team of athletes on
the planet. To a great extent the success was built on the back of Marolt. His energy,
focus and fundraising skills are unparalleled. A major cog in his success results from
the building of the oft-criticized Center of Excellence. Despite the naysayers, today it
houses what may well be the premier sports science program in sport today. Couple
that with a fiscally sound company and you have an organization that is one of the best
in sport — all sport.
