Lexi Calcagni, a Burke racer from Rutland, Vt., was the women’s silver medalist, and Andreini got third.
Fourth in the men’s race went to Jordan Fuller with KJ Savaria fifth, Brannen
Haderle sixth and Hall seventh. The four
through seven slots in the women’s race
were filled, respectively, by Chenoweth,
Anna Jobe (who started 36th), Alice Merryweather and Anna Mounsey.
Veth got the super G win in a very close
race over Francis (0.02) with downhill
champ Lebel getting the bronze medal
0.08 from first. Jeremy Epstein, from Waterville Valley, was fourth; Sprock fifth,
Auty sixth and Dean Travers of the Cayman Islands seventh.
Bjorkman earned J2 SG honors, 0.07
over Andreini. Jobe moved up a spot from
the downhill to win the bronze medal.
Mounsey finished fourth, Breezy Johnson fifth, Julia Chasell of Squaw Valley
was sixth and Snoqualmie skier Linnea
Baysinger won seventh.
Bjorkman doubled up with the GS win
Saturday with a fast second run that
moved her seven-hundredths of a second
ahead of silver medal winner Johnson,
from Victor, Idaho. The bronze medal will
head north to Anchorage in the hands of
Alyeska Ski Club racer Jordan Lane. Cal-
cagni finished fourth for the East. Andreini
got her third top-five finish in four J2 Na-
tional races. The rest of the top 10 includ-
ed, respectively, Madeline Johnson, Katy
Greene, Alexandra Skovran, Jessica Re-
inhart and Chandler Sedberry.
The men’s GS went to Stateline, Nevada skier Sprock, who both runs with a
comfortable margin of more than a second and a half over Jeremy Epstein, of
New Castle, N.H., and skiing out of the
Waterville Valley BBTS program. Taking
the bronze medal, just 0.05 from silver,
was Veth from Arroyo Seco, N.M.
Leever, of Vail, just missed a second J2
medal in fourth. Arvidsson of Woodside,
Calif., was fifth. Nick Santaniello from Edwards, Colo., and the Vail program, came
from the 31st start position to win sixth,
his best showing of the meet. Seventh
went to Garret Driller of Tahoe City, Calif.,
and the Squaw Valley Ski Team.
Chenoweth out-dueled Merryweather for
the women’s parallel win and Leever got
past Driller for the men’s victory. Combined titles, figured on slalom and downhill, went to Chenoweth over Calcagni
and Arvidsson over Veth.
Overall the J2 Nationals should be a
precursor to next season’s event, as an
age change will bring many of the racers
together again. “I think,” said DelliQuadri,
“it will be a top event. It’s already good,
but I think it’s going to be at a new level.”
Gold medal winners earned an invite to
the U.S. Alpine Championships scheduled for this week.
