TED LIGETY STRUTS HIS
GIANT SLALOM STUFF IN
KRANJSKA GORA

The Ted Ligety we saw racing GS at Soelden in
October and in Beaver Creek in December showed
up in Kranjska Gora, which is no huge surprise as
he had won at the site three times before.
But we mean that he REALLY showed up, display-
ing every bit of the skill, daring and characteristic
high-line, lay ‘em over style that had made him “Mr.
GS,” the best giant slalom skier in the world.
That designation had seemed a bit tainted since
December, as Austria’s Marcel Hirscher and Italy’s
Massimiliano Blardone combined to run off four
straight GS wins, nearly half the whole season. But
in the comfortable confines of Kranjska Gora, Slo-
venia, on March 10, old Ted Ligety showed them
what GS was about — how it is supposed to be
