MEN Devon Kershaw
CANADIAN NORDIC SKIER OF THE YEAR
While Alex Harvey might have the Quebecois
excited by following in his father’s mighty
footsteps, for the rest of Canada it was Devon
Kershaw who put an extra bounce in every nordic
skier’s stride this winter. Kershaw, after finishing
second in the overall this season, is considered
second only to superstars Petter Northug and
Dario Cologna in the world. This season, Kershaw
amassed seven World Cup podiums including two
victories, while also finishing fourth in the Tour
de Ski, an event which is rapidly becoming one
of the sports most coveted victories. In the World
Cup Finals mini-tour in Falun, an event in which
Kershaw has traditionally struggled, he closed out
an almost perfect season with a strong second
behind World Cup overall winner Cologna. But
perhaps most importantly, he led a breakthrough
season for the Canadians in which they
established their team as one of the top programs
in the world. Kershaw may have remade himself
this season as the next cross country star, but he’s
lifted his teammates to the next level as well.
