Dana Alexandrescu capped off a strong year on the Intermountain masters
circuit with a spectacular showing at the Skier’s Edge National Masters
Championships held at her hometown of Park City. The 35-year-old computer
software developer for USSA not only swept her Class 3 and trounced all the
women in the four championship races, but also beat all the Group D men, with
the exception of Pepi Neubauer.
“Maybe because I did fewer races this season, I peaked at the right time,” said
Alexandrescu. “And of course it helped that the races were on my home hill.” She
then added with a laugh, “It also helps that my primary motive is just to beat all
the boys.”
She came to this country from Romania at the age of 17, settled in Vermont
where she raced the NorAm circuit, and then migrated west to Denver University
before hooking up with the Park City Masters program. She was good as a
youngster and has only gotten better with age.
“It’s awesome that the people I ski with would recognize me,” said Alexandrescu.
“It’s very humbling.”
