Goodbye to All That
BIDDING A BITTERSWEET FAREWELL TO THE
WINTER OF DISCONTENT BY BILL MCCOLLOM
Yes, the fat lady has sung. The 2011-12 winter (the season
that never was, for many) is just so much history. Only a few short
months ago we were brimming with anticipation; dreaming of bottomless powder; and making plans to have career-best ski racing
seasons. Whether or not our goals were fulfilled, it’s too late now.
A rash of warm weather prematurely snuffed out this season, one
that has been on life-support for the past three months. It’s time to
move on, yet… I seem to be up to my axles in mud.
Since I have the attention span of a chihuahua, I have never had a
problem with closing one chapter and immediately opening another.
In the past, I have proven myself capable of seamlessly moving
from season to season and sport to sport without so much as a
casual glance over my shoulder. And so it was with this season
— or so I thought.
