GLOBAL RESCUE
My parents and I could not believe what
an amazing deal Global Rescue was. For a
couple hundred dollars I had been rescued
from Argentina. If I had not had Global
Rescue insurance, and they were forced to
pay for it themselves, the cost would have
been absurd. My parents and I instantly
became advocates for Global Rescue.
The next injury was a bit more serious, and
occurred over the summer of 2010 in La
happened. My coach and I were flown by
helicopter to the nearest hospital in Santiago,
where X-rays confirmed what we had
already suspected. My coach waited with
me while the contact from Global Rescue
flew down to Santiago. The following day,
after my leg had been set (I decided to have
surgery back in the U.S.), I met up with the
Global Rescue contact, who flew home with
me. Global Rescue was able to book me
first class: Each seat basically turned into a
bed, making the long flight home much more
manageable.
Upon arriving back home, I once again
parted ways with Global Rescue, and once
again felt incredibly lucky to have had a
Global Rescue membership. Without Global
Rescue I would most likely have been
forced to have the surgery back in Chile.
This wouldn’t have been a disaster — the
Santiago hospital was a pretty nice place —
but I am very glad that I was able to have the
surgery done Stateside. I also saved tens of
thousands of dollars on this last excursion,
as Global Rescue covered every single bill
for transport after the injury. (I’m sure that the
lengthy helicopter ride from La Parva to the
center of Santiago was not cheap.) I would
definitely recommend Global Rescue to any
ski racer, or any traveler in general. It’s an
incredible company — which you hopefully
will never have the luck to experience.
