MEN Tim Kelley
COLLEGIATE ALPINE SKIER OF THE YEAR
Tim Kelley’s slalom abilities were impressive
enough to earn him the national championship
last season at NCAAs. This year, the UVM racer
made a noble defense of his title but came up
short to Denver’s Espen Lysdahl and finished
as the runner-up. Three slalom victories and
two second-place results on the EISA circuit
for Kelley were practically expected of this ace.
In fact, his own teammates provided the only
competition he seemed to have in the regular
season. Also expected was a string of — at
best — average GS results. Kelley finished the
season ranked ninth in the East in that event.
But at NCAAs, the slalom king turned heads
when he placed fourth in the GS and became
the only male alpine skier to earn first-team All-American honors in both events. He must have
figured something out just in time. We expect
him to challenge in both disciplines next season
in his final year of eligibility.
