THE CHAMPIONSHIPS WINTER PARK 2012
It’s not too often in professional sports
that fans and spectators get the chance to
participate in a competition together with
the actual pros themselves. But in late
March, NASTAR will team up with USSA
to put on the ultimate event: a 10-day ski
festival that includes both the Nature Val-
ley NASTAR National Championships and
the Nature Valley U.S. Alpine Champion-
ships at Winter Park, Colo.
It’s designed to rally American alpine
racers and the industry around one event.
Recreational racers and fans of the sport
will have the opportunity to meet, race and
compete with current and former U.S. Ski
Team athletes. There will be live music,
Warren Miller film screenings, parties,
sponsor demos, race video and more.
For the NASTAR Nationals, NASTAR
racers can qualify within their age category,
division, and discipline at more than 120
resorts that offer NASTAR racing. A top-five
ranking as of Feb. 21 at any resort qualifies
racers for the Nationals. The overall
champions (fastest man and woman) will
earn forerunner positions for the U.S. Alpine
Championships giant slalom and a trip to a
U.S. Ski Team training camp.
The NASTAR races will be held from
March 23 to 26 (with race clinics on March
21 and 22) and U.S. Nationals will be held
from March 28 to April 1. The two days
in between will feature a “Return of the
Champions Family Challenge” and a U.S.
