THE CHAMPIONSHIPS WINTER PARK 2012
Ski Team Pro-Am.
The Return of the Champions Family Challenge will allow family members
to compete as a team against other family teams. In addition, the event
is designed as a U.S. Ski Team reunion so that alumni can bring their
kids and their parents to the event and compete with their families. Teams
must have a minimum of three family members and each team member
will score points for their team within their age and gender group. (Family
teams do not need to qualify for the race.)
The U.S. Ski Team Pro-Am brings together race league teams and teams
of friends from across the country to compete for a national championship
team title. Each team will add to their roster a U.S. Ski Team athlete selected
by team captains the night before the race at a welcome reception. Each
team member will score points for their team based on the best handicap
they earn in their age group. Each team must have a minimum of six team
members.
All NASTAR National Championship competitors will receive a competitor
credential as part of their entry fee, which provides access to all NASTAR
National Championship activities. In addition to activities and events, the
credentials will give participants access to discounts on the mountain
and in town. For those who are not competing, a $40 guest pass may be
purchased for access to all events.
“NASTAR is an essential lifeline to the USSA, helping to grow participation
and act as an entry point for youngsters to alpine ski racing,” says Bill
Marolt, the USSA president and CEO. “The Championships are a great
opportunity to bring NASTAR and the U.S. Ski Team together for this 10-
day event.”
Participants have the opportunity to mingle not only with current U.S. Ski
Team members, but also with NASTAR ambassadors and U.S. Ski Team
alumni. This year’s three ambassadors are Picabo Street, Steven Nyman,
and Nolan Kasper.
“Being a part of the largest recreational ski program in the world on behalf
of Nature Valley is something my family and I are very excited about this
season,” says Street. “We are so looking forward to being in Winter Park.”
Nolan Kasper is a new NASTAR ambassador this year.
Picabo Street will be one of three NASTAR ambassadors.
