Lindsey Vonn isn’t usually a crier, but af-
ter she won her 50th World Cup race, the
tears in the Garmisch media corral were as
unstoppable as she is on the hill. The down-
hill victory just happened to be on a course
that brought tears of frustration only a year
ago.
“Things happen for a reason,” said Vonn,
reflecting back on her disappointment at not
reaching the half-century mark along with a
three-win hat trick in St. Moritz the previous
weekend when she was edged by 0.03 sec-
onds by Maria Hoefl-Riesch.
The situation was just right in Garmisch
as several members of Vonn’s family were
on hand to celebrate. “To have my dad and
stepmom and sister Laura here meant ev-
erything to me,” she said. “It’s something
