WORLD CUP With the absence of Thomas, Lindsey Vonn has relied more on the support of her U.S. teammates. “The girls on the team have supported me in a personal way because they realize how difficult this is for me and it has brought us as a team of girls together,” said Vonn. “I have personal struggles just like everyone else and it’s been really great for me to have so much support from everyone from my teammates and coaches. I definitely wouldn’t be able to do it without them.” With three more racers in the top 15, the entire U.S. team in Garmisch got a chance to celebrate along with Vonn. Stacey Cook and Laurenne Ross marked top- 10 results in ninth and 10th, respectively. Julia Mancuso tied Austrian Anna Fenninger for 13th. “We have an unbelievable staff that contributed to this,” said U.S. head coach Alex Hoedlmoser. “They have a lot of knowledge and energy that transfers directly to the athletes. It’s a long season, but they always keep the energy up, and you need that to be successful as a team. This shows that we have a very good combination of a lot of things. Lindsey is obviously doing her part, but we have an incredible team behind her and all the other athletes. I’m super happy with our performance.” Vonn is only the third woman in World Cup history to earn 50 wins.
With her sister Laura Kildow, Vonn enjoys the moment on the Garmisch podium.
