…The catering in the media center
is a beautiful spread of build-your-own
peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.
...And also when the podium finishers
shower each other in sparkling cider
because two out of three of them are
under the age of 19.
I Won at the Williams Carnival and All I
Got Was This Oversized T-Shirt
Harvard’s Rebecca Nadler (center) made history with her victory at the Williams Carnival giant slalom as the first Crimson athlete
to ever win a NCAA Skiing alpine race. The oversized Williams
Outing Club tee will look just dashing in the streets of Cambridge.
Don’t Even Think About It
In the days between the men’s and women’s inaugural World
Cup races, Rosa Khutor resort in Russia’s Krasnaya Polyana
region was somewhat of a mountainous ghost town, as it was
closed to the public.
Taking advantage of the quiet mountain, Marco Sullivan of the
U.S. Ski Team tested skis with speed coach Chris Brigham, while
Ted Ligety and others ran gates. The Russian national ski team
also trained, taking advantage of their future Olympic site.
Despite only a handful of racers and workers on the large mountain, security remained at an exceedingly high level. Russian
police and soldiers patrolled the mountain while often looking
quite bored.
The good news for the few skiers on the hill, however, was that
with surveillance at such a high level, there was absolutely no
need to worry about skis being stolen.
