Coming into this season, Marcel Hirscher
possessed two World Cup wins. He matched
that total at Bansko, Bulgaria, in two days —
and nobody was surprised.
He is having that good a season, epic even. At
23, he’s a big powerful kid who doesn’t really
have a grasp of how difficult it should be to pull
off this type of season. He has survived hor-
rendous course conditions, a media frenzy and
Straddlegate yet is in position to make history.
After Bansko (Feb. 18 and 19), where he won
the GS by 1.39 seconds and the slalom by 0.57,
he has amassed eight wins this season, five
